Protect Your Business Online

Cybercrime is increasing at an alarming rate, and we have seen reports of criminal cyber activity in Brisbane and in the Redlands!

Here are some steps to take to help you protect your business.

  • Anti-virus Software: A must and should be installed on every computer. These helps prevent users inadvertently allowing the installation of known malicious software.
  • Backing up and restoring: Backups are best when run automatically on a schedule. But don’t forget to restore periodically to prove the integrity of your back up process.
  • Safe Browsing: If it looks too good to be true, it probably is! Avoid anything that looks suspicious. When browsing a website, if you see ABC company wants to send you notifications, ‘allow or deny’… always deny! If you ‘allow’ expect to see a mirage of adverting from unrelated sources.
  • Email & texts: Don’t send sensitive date like your date of birth or bank account details via email or text.
  • File sharing: only share files on services like google drive or drop box, with trusted people and in a limited way. If you share with someone who has ’infected‘ files, your files may also be at risk.
  • Sending & Receiving data: Always use a secure file portal. We use Hightail and it works very well and can accommodate very large files.
  • Multifactor authentication: is worth it! Set up MFA whenever you can, it’s a well worthwhile layer of security.
  • Online banking: never share your password and use a second layer of security when logging in, like two step authentication.
  • Wi Fi and public networks. When on holidays don’t use the hotel Wi-Fi to do your banking. You are much better to use your phone hotspot and be quick!
